Warwickshire Youth Dance:
A youth dance project launched by the Ensemble in 1995 whilst it was based in the West Midlands region. We carried out a series of schools workshops and a very successful launch weekend. The group met once a week and performed on a number of occasions at The Robin Howard Theatre (The Place) and at the Laban Centre and throughout the country on youth dance platforms. From one youth company the project expanded to three companies across Warwickshire. A number of young dancers have gone onto full-time dance training.
Anjali Dance Company:
Claire Russ has championed Anjali Dance Company over a number of years. It is the first learning-disabled led touring dance company. Members with a learning disability dance, choreograph, and lead workshops for other groups. Claire has created five works for the company, and supported its development from community group to professional organisation.
A film project with female victims of domestic violence in Staffordshire, West Midlands created by ensemble filmmaker Sam Usher. This project aimed to offer a creative outlet for women, increase awareness and funding and save a network of refuges under threat. The project was successful in these outcomes. This powerful film used dance theatre to tell the story of the cycle of abuse that the women experienced.
A dance theatre production involving a hundred participants, created from a series of workshops with community members, and performed at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry. This work consisted of a beautiful dance for 20 males from ages 8 - 80.
